  1. What is BWRT ?

    What is BWRT?

    What does BWRT stand for?  BWRT is Brain Working Recursive Therapy.

    It is a brand new therapy that is unlike any other and can help effect permanent change in a very short period of time. It was created in 2011 by Terrence Watts a therapist, author and trainer who is also the principal of the Essex Institute of Clinical Hypnosis. After being inspired by the studies of Virtual Nobel Prize Winner: Benjamin Libet, Terrence started to develop this new form of therapy and it is now spreading across the world.

    It differs from many other types of therapy, not just in the way that it can help you in one or two sessions, but also in because it can be undertaken content free. What this means to you is that if you have a problem that you would feel uncomfortable or unable to talk about then you do not need to. Instead of spending many session talking about it you can use the BWRT technique to help you deal with the problem and simply change the way that you think about it.  

    BWRT is not Hypnosis

    It does not use hypnosis or hypnotherapy. It is completely logical, practical and down to earth. It is a completely new form of therapy that is showing remarkable results for those who have undertaken it. You can even have BWRT sessions on Skype from the comfort of your own home.

    The BWRT technique can only be practiced by certified practitioners, who have been trained by Terrence Watts himself. In order to undertake the training one must already be a professional therapist, psychotherapist, psychologist, counsellor or medical practitioner.

    I was trained in BWRT by Terence himself and so I am qualified as a certified BWRT Practitioner. If you are wondering if BWRT may be the right therapy to help you then please do get in touch to ask me any questions that you may have. 

    There are currently only a few hundred trained practitioners of BWRT worldwide. As a newly created technique I am pleased to be able to offer this as part of the help that I provide for people. Some practitioners may not have the same training and experience in other methods that can also help such as EMDR, EFT, NLP or Hypnosis. For this reason I would never decide the best way to help you until we had started working together. What this means is that all the letters and acronyms are really irrelevant to you. The only important thing to know is that I have a wide variety of methods to use which means that we can work together to give you exactly the help that you need.

    How on earth does BWRT work...?

    From the beginning...
    For a start off, we work with a different part of the brain from that which any other therapy does; where many neuroscience-based therapies boast of how they work directly with the amygdala and the limbic system, BWRT® works with a part of the brain that 'fires up' long before the limbic system even gets started.

    In fact, by the time the limbic system is involved, the physical body has already started to react, already commenced whatever action or psychological process that past experience has indicated is needed... even if that experience is out of date and no longer relevant. It's a kind of 'blind obedience'.

      

     

    The name of that part of the brain depends on whether you are following the biological model or the evolutionary model - we use the latter in the Level 1 training since it makes it much easier to understand the how and why of what we do. In the biological model, it's usually referred to as the 'hind brain' though it's sometimes called the 'lizard brain' or the 'reptilian brain' - in the evolutionary model (the 'Triune Brain' devised by Paul D Maclean in the 19060s) we refer to it as the 'reptilian complex'. It's the oldest brain structure we have and it dates back some 650 million years to the first sentient creatures that walked the planet, our earliest ancestors. Anatomically, it's the 'brain stem' and includes the primitive part of the limbic system.

       

    The Evolutionary Brain Model
    No matter how it's referred to in any one model, the important thing is that it was the only brain those early ancestors had... it had to do everything. Every impulse from the world and from the physical body was processed by that early brain before it progressed anywhere else. And here's the thing: nothing's changed, because once evolution has created a fundamental process it's there for good. So although our brain is greatly evolved from those earliest ancestors of ours, every bit of information is still processed by that reptilian complex before it goes anywhere else.

    The important thing about all this is that when a pattern of impulses is recognised, it will start the body responding in the same way as it has before, since that response led to survival and must therefore be safe... but we're not aware of this at that point. In fact, we don't become aware of it until that impulse has covered up to fifty meters of neural network into the part of the brain where awareness resides. By then, everything is in full flight!

    BWRT® does its work in that 'cognitive gap' between an action starting and conscious recognition of that action. We actually work directly with that reptilian complex, to change the response to patterns of input. And we do this by using the same automatic processes by which it learns the patterns it responds to in the first place - but we get it to wait for further information instead of responding immediately. All we have to do then is ensure that the new information is instantaneously preferable and therefore instantaneously accepted.

  2. Hypnotherapy for driving test nerves and anxiety

    When I think back to my driving test days, or should I say driving tests days, I smile fondly at the memory. That's how I look at it in hindsight but for so many people struggling to get through their driving tests it can become a source of great anxiety and nerves. It can even lead to panic attacks and the thought "I will never be able to pass my driving test"

    How can you break this cycle of nerves and anxiety?

    I actually took three goes to pass my test. The first time I don't think I was ready to take it. The second time I was overcome with nerves and failed on goodness knows how many accounts. The third time however I had let go of the anxiety and I sailed through. Like everyone who passed after multiple attempts...I also think that it probably made me a better driver than those who passed first time. (We all say that!)

    When I see someone who is worried about a driving test, the chances are that they have already failed it once before. It can be easy to turn it into a bigger problem than it is. Once you start thinking about the next driving test you can already see yourself nervous and stressed and on the way to failing. I like to use the phrase "We get more of what we think about" a lot. It's a simple way to understand how once you begin to imagine that you will fail then the chances are more likely that you will!

    One of the simple ways to change the way you think about the test is to change the way you see it. When I talk through my clients who have asked me for hypnotherapy for driving test nerves, we look at how important it is to pass.

    Of course, it's very important! It can make a huge difference to your life. That freedom and independence will take you wherever you want it. This can just add to the stress.

    Here's another questions that may change it..

    How important is it to pass it on the next attempt?

    Most people would say it was very important. However, I would say it's not important at all. What happens if you fail? Do they post your picture on the internet with "FAILURE" printed over it and then ban you from ever taking another test?

    No, of course not.  They just let you take another one! And another. It's not important that you pass this time. We have all read stories about people who have failed many many times. They have got into a cycle of thinking the next one will be a failure too. But, the positive side of this is that they can still keep on taking the test!! As many times as they want. Of course there is a cost in multiple driving test attempts, but they won't stop you trying!

    Of course, that is just the begining. Hypnotherapy for driving test nerves will teach you to relax and let go, it can help to grow your confidence and put everything into perspective so that you can go out and pass that driving test.

    Once you have passed...then you don't need to do it again. It will all be over...or is it just the start?
