I can help you to let go of anxiety and stress, end panic attacks and find ways to deal with those feelings so that you can take back that control. On average clients only see me for 3 or 4 sessions and because I record any hypnotherapy that we do and make sure you have a copy then you can rest assured that you will have the support you need between seeing me too.  Imagine how much it could help just having someone to talk to who understands how you are feeling? Often, living with family or friends who cannot understand can make things even more difficult for you. I am not here to judge, or tell you what to do, just to help you.

Is all Stress bad for me ?

Actually some types of stress are in fact good for us.

For instance its a good idea to be alert when we have an important meeting or need to run.

Stress is caused by the body preparing to fight or flight. You have probably heard the term before and it's something that our bodies have been doing for many many years throughout our evolution. The response is a key to our survival. This means when we are confronted with a threat we prepare to either fight it or run away. Our heart rate increases as does the production of adrenaline. This means that our body prepares as if we are in danger even when it’s an imagined threat.

So what happens is that stress is caused when the fight or flight response is started and then not ended properly because we didn’t fight or flight.

Everyone has stress in their daily life and we normally can reduce it, but because of the way our lives are, we don’t always get to relieve it any more. We carry that stress with us and we allow it to build up.

We have a normal 24 hour cycle and also ultradian rhythms too which last about 100 minutes. This means that we need to make sure that we allow ourselves to to rest during these cycles. If we make time to rest for even just seven short minutes then it really helps us to reduce tension and relax more. It's a little like having a mini sleep. This helps our bodies to recover and continue to work in a much better way.

But in our busy lives, we often miss out on these breaks and this can lead to a build up of stress.

Sometimes when we get those feelings of drowsiness, perhaps in the afternoon after lunch, we respond by having a cup of coffee or some chocolate, this though is the opposite of what our body really needs.

So if this sounds like something that you usually do, perhaps you could try and relax first then afterwards you can still have that drink of tea or coffee if you really fancy it!

So many things that we think are relaxing are not quite as good for us as we may at first think, such as a TV drama or playing a video game. It creates stress but we then don’t relieve it because we are sat down.

We don’t need to do this every time, just a couple of five minute breaks, just twice a day can really help.

Here is what you can do....

You can start by paying attention to your feet. Make them comfortable and feel their weight, warmth and shape.

Then take a deep breath say the number 1 and let that feeling come up your body to your knees, breathe normally then say the number 2 and pull it up to your waist.

With the number 3 pull that feeling up to your shoulders, all the way up to your shoulders.

Take another breath and say 4 and let the feeling flow all the way up to your head up your neck to the top of your head.

Let your whole body feel all the good feeling and warmth,

Now with the number 5 double that feeling back down to your shoulders.

Then with 6 and a deeper out breath double it down to your waist.

With the number 7 breathing out double it down to your knees. Feel it pass from your waist to your knees... And finally...

With the number 8 double it back down to your feet all the way to the end of your toes. Enjoy that feeling of completeness and send any tension out through your heels.

Pause for a while and notice what feelings you have and let yourself really relax. Then if you want to you can repeat it again.

You can do this twice a day anywhere that you can safely relax, even if you do it on a bus or train no one will know what you are doing.

If you can then do it every day, because the feelings will become a habit for you and then you will feel calmer and feel better every day. You can make this a habit, and a habit that is really beneficial to your well being.

Another way to help with relaxation...

An excellent way to also help a change for the positive is to make some changes to your environment.

So for instance, currently if you work indoors all day then take ten minutes to go for a walk and get some fresh air. You really can benefit from being somewhere different, and then being able to see the trees with their leaves, hear the birds, and smell the fresh air all around you. Just breathe in the goodness and the healthy air of the outdoors. If you really give yourself time to do this you will notice the benefits to how you feel. Don’t tell yourself you don’t have time, you can make time for it.  If you make time you will be rewarded with a calmer outlook on life.

....noise has been found to be a major factor in creating stress so if you can why not change it?

If you work somewhere noisy or travel somewhere noisy then why not give yourself five minutes silence?

If you have noisy kids then tell them you want five minutes silence a day and make sure they respect it. You may even get them to join in. I can't promise that but it has to be worth a try !

If you are able then you could try and change your work environment.

Can you take a plant in?

Or a picture and change things at all?

Perhaps you could put something in the car that helps to relax you and that you can associate with it.

All of these little changes can help you towards a calmer outlook on your life.
