These are questions that many more people ask than ever as mindfulness meditation becomes more and more popular in the media.

We are starting to hear more and more about mindfulness and how it can help with your mental health but what exactly is it and how can you learn how to practice mindfulness techniques?

So what is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness meditation can help you learn how to slow down, relax and create space in your life, even when very busy. In the short term it helps you create moments of calm in your day, in the longer term it will help you be less stressed and anxious throughout the day, as you move towards having a sense of calm that stays with you through the whole day.

Once you learn the techniques of being able to let go and relax you can find the benefits of mindfulness stay with you even during the toughest times in your life.

Mindfulness is all about paying attention to the present moment without making judgements. We tend to focus on past feeling and experiences and be a bundle of habits whilst often being unaware of what we are doing as if we are on autopilot. With mindfulness we focus on being rather than doing and learn to manage and reduce our stress and anxiety levels.

Mindfulness can reduce stress, anxiety, pain and depression, and boost creativity, the quality of your relationships and your overall sense of wellbeing. The more you practice mindfulness, the better.

 How do I practice Mindfulness?

Once you become more aware and mindful of your breathing then you can end the stress and anxiety that many people live with on a daily basis.

Put simply Mindfulness is a way of paying attention to, and seeing clearly whatever is happening in our lives.  It doesn’t stop all of life's pressures, but it can help us learn how to respond to them in a calmer manner that has great benefits for our heart, head, and body. Once you start to learn and understand more about it you can start to feel the benefits much more quickly than you may at first imagine. With a little practice we can learn to step away from what are often unconscious emotional reactions to things that happen during our days.
